World's Highest Bridge Opens To Traffic In China

Towering over 500m above a gorge in southwestern China, what has been dubbed by Chinese state media as the “world’s highest bridge” has opened to traffic.

The Beipanjiang bridge, which took three years to complete, links the province of Guizhou and Yunnan and is expected to reduce road travel times from Liupanshui to Xuianwei from five hours to two. Its 1,341-metre span of four-lane road deck soars 564 metres over the Beipan River, making it the highest if not the tallest in the world.

It soars 565m into the sky and cost over 130 million euros to construct. The bridge is said to shorten the journey between the two places by over three hours.
